Abstract

Caffeine is a methylxanthine alkaloid compound, which is not only effective, but also safe and needn′t monitor the plasma concentration for the prevention and treatment of apnea in preterm infants, compared with theophylline.In recent years, it has been reported that caffeine is beneficial to improve weaning extubation success rate, reduce the incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants, reduce the risk of surgical closure of patent ductus arteriosus, and improve the long-term neurological outcome in preterm infants.
