Abstract

Abstract This is the preface of the 6th special issue that the present organizing body has prepared. The aim has been to contribute with novel knowledge in surface, interface, ultra-thin films and very-thin films science of inorganic and organic materials by the most rapid interactive manner - by direct communication among scientists of these research fields. The list of topics indicates that conference topics cover the development all the way from basic theoretical physical and chemical principles and performance of surfaces, thin films and interface-related procedures to the corresponding experimental research on an atomic scale. Topical results are applied to the development of new inventive industrial devices needed for investigation of electrical, optical, and structural properties, and other parameters of atomic-size research objects. The conference range spreads, from a physics point of view, from fundamental research done on sub-atomic and quantum level to production of devices built on new physical principles. An attempt has been made, also to include presentations of fundamentally new devices in the following fields: solar cells, liquid crystal displays, high-temperature superconductivity, and sensors. During the event, special attention was given to the evaluation of scientific and technical quality of works presented by PhD students, to deep ecological implications of solar cell energy production, and to the exhibitions of various companies.
