Abstract
A new national project on the R&D for coated conductors in Japan was reviewed. The project consists of four research groups: two of them are responsible for the long coated conductor processing and the other two are supporting them to realize all targeted goals. Although the project was just started at the end of last May, some fruitful results were already obtained. A 100 m long IBAD-PLD tape with the J c value of 38 A was fabricated. The extremely high I c value of 292 A was realized in the TFA-MOD films by using the multi-coating method. The long tape processing in TFA-MOD was also started and the 0.25 m long tape with a high I c value of 210A was fabricated by the developed reel-to-reel system. Additionally, the CVD process was tried on a CeO 2 capped IBAD-GZO buffered substrate and a 1 m long tape was successfully deposited at a high rate, which revealed a high J c value. The steady progress through the last project has been continued in the new project. Therefore, it can be expected to reach the goals within the scheduled 5 years and the results will be expanded to the next stage for the applications.
