Abstract

This chapter considers the design, structure, and implementation of some of the most effective and innovative scholars' programs. It explains how the scholars' programs provide diversity practitioners the rare opportunity to influence curriculum, guide faculty, and create an integrated system wherein students receive support. Moreover, scholars' programs also offer other opportunities to enhance institutional collaborations. The chapter discusses the extent of the scholar's programs' success while detailing the features of outreach, financial aid, summer bridge programs, and multiyear programming. It also mentions how racial affinity groups became a common way for institutions to attempt to support historically marginalized students and promote their sense of belonging.
