Abstract

Non-healable wounds and those wounds in patients with advanced illness can be challenging to treat. Prognostication is important for frank conversations with patients and caregivers. This article provides current evidence of accurate prognostication for those patients living with pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and neuropathic foot ulcers. Treatment strategies address psychosocial stressors, wound-associated pain, odor and drainage management, and infection prevention. This update aims to provide the best evidence, where available, to guide the clinician in prognostication and management of non-healable wounds and wounds at the end of life.
