Abstract

We have made a retrospective study on the histologic material of 25 cases of uterine leiomyosarcomas. We have evaluated 3 of the most reliable histopathologic changes, and opposed them to the patients' clinical condition: 5 year survival, metastases, and death. This correlation between the histopathologic and clinical findings is the basis of this study.Briefly, the technique consists of studying anaplasia, mitotic cell counts, and symplasmic cell counts, and grading them I, II, III, IV. We found that a greater degree of malignancy was indicated by high grades of anaplasia and mitotic cell counts, and low symplasmic cell counts, while the opposite was true for the less malignant cases. The advantages of our technique is the facility of its application, and its accuracy as proved by the clinical information available.
