Abstract

The objectives of this descriptive and comparative study were to profile the Adult Education and Human Resource Development professoriate, identify similarities and differences between them, describe the nature of job and career choices, and identify factors that contribute to professional fulfillment. Responses from 163 members of the Commission of Professors of Adult Education and the Academy of Human Resource Development provided data describing the nature of the professoriate. The results of this study support the need for initiatives that contribute to providing opportunities for faculty interactions with students and improving administrative duties and relationships. Speculations and implications for future directions in the field also are explored, and opportunities for research are identified.
