Jompie Parepare Botanic Gardens (JPBG) is one of the regional botanical gardens built on cooperation between the Center for Plant Conservation Botanic Gardens-Indonesian Institute of Sciences (CPCBG-IIoS), Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PWPH), and the City Government of Parepare South Sulawesi Province. Jompie Parepare Botanic Gardens was inaugurated to the public on 28 November 2017. JPBG has implemented 5 functions of botanic gardens, namely conservation, research, education, tourism and environmental services. JPBG conservation function can be seen from non-orchid plants that have been collected by JPBG which are 48 tribes, 140 genera, 159 species, and 702 specimens and a collection of orchids that consist of 38 genera, 37 species, and 224 specimens. Some plants of JPBG collection include threatened plants such as Aglaia smithii Koord., Diospyros celebica Bakh., Pterocarpus indicus Willd., and Swietenia macrophylla King, which are among the vulnerable categories of IUCN. The function of JPBG education and tourism can be seen from the high public interest to visit JPBG, both for travel and environmental education. The number of visitors to JPBG increased from 2016, 2017, and until June 2018, respectively 1661 people, 3022 people and 5010 people. JPBG needs to continue to enhance its role and function in the conservation of Indonesian plants.
