Abstract
A remarkable soil scientist Viktor Ivanovich Mikhaylyuk is known for his numerous scientific works, which are devoted to the study of properties of floodplain soils of Ukraine, to estimate of the effect of irrigation on the properties of chernozem (black) soils, the theory of soil genesis and geographic specificities of the soil cover of the Steppe zone.He developed the concept of soil formation and the formation of the soil structure in the floodplain of the small and medium-sized rivers of the north-western Black Sea coast. On the basis of the concept, an approach to floodplain soils as complex polygenetic and polychrome formations, reflecting the ancient stages of lito- and pedogenesis and the geomoiphologic-geological structure of river valleys, zonal-facial and local conditions, namral transformation of soil formation factors and versatile anthropogenic influences is realized. On the basis of the developed factor-evolutionary model of flood soil formation in soil science, the concept of "ground time chains" and "ground-formation potential" was introduced. For the first time, systematics of the floodplain soils of small and medium-sized rivers of the north-western Black Sea coast was carried out using the developed profile-genetic classification of floodplain soils: the geologic regularities of the halogenesis as a landscape-geochemical process are analyzed and mathematical models of salt accumulation in soils and ground waters are proposed: the theory of zlitogenesis as a landscape-mechanogeochemical process was proposed and the author's physico-mechanical concept of merging as an elementary soil process, with the differentiation of stages of its development, was further developed: a set of basic elemental soil processes with a characteristic of the features of their manifestation and the introduction of the concept of "the geography of the functioning of elementary soil processes" is established. In the article in the chronological sequence the main milestones of the scientific and creative way of the Doctor of Geographical Sciences. Head of the Department of Land Management and Cadastre of the Odessa State Agrarian University. Professor Victor Ivanovich Mikhaylyuk are highlighted, which makes it possible to evaluate the contribution of the scientist to the development of soil geography and soil science as a science and scientific discipline.
