Abstract
Professor Peter Sjøholt was 80 on 8 July 2005. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1982 and was appointed Professor of Geography at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in Bergen in 1985. His major academic interests are central place theory, urban development, service industries, tropical colonization, and other themes in economic geography. He retired in 1995 but is still active.
