Abstract

From her very early years, Marian distinguished herself academically, receiving numerous awards and scholarships in high school and at the University of Toronto while studying for her B.A. Although at the time it was unusual for women to pursue advanced degrees, she entered the graduate program at the University of Toronto and received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1954, and continued in the same department as a part-time lecturer while starting her family. Her opportunity to engage in research came in 1963 when the family relocated (because of her husband's job) to Guelph, the site of the Ontario Veterinary College.
