It includes five case scenarios depicting hypothetical situations in which trainees and physicians in practice must deal with issues of professionalism. The tutorial allows learners to become familiar with the abstract concepts of professionalism by applying them in practical, familiar situations. Learners can read the available text as well as access reference information in order to develop a broader understanding of the applications of professionalism. The posttest can be used by the learner after the tutorial as a means of solidifying the learning material or separately by program directors and others to assess their trainees' mastery of the material. Adequate references are included for those desiring to delve more deeply into the realm of professionalism in medical education. Educational Objectives By the end of this tutorial, the learner should be able to: Define the qualities of professionalism and what it means to be part of a profession.Identify medical errors and how to handle them.Understand the issues involved in gaming the system.Recognize conflicts of interest and understand their implications.
