Abstract

This chapter examines the provisions in Part 3 of the Act, which is entitled ‘UK Market Access: Professional Qualifications and Regulations’. Part 3 contains sections 24–29 of the Act. The provisions in respect of professional qualifications and professional regulation are a very obvious application of the principles of mutual recognition and non-discrimination embodied within the Act. The main object of Part 3 of the Act is to avoid new barriers to the movement of professionals within the United Kingdom internal market by making provision for an overarching system of mutual recognition of professional qualifications across the United Kingdom. Part 3 also provides for a number of exceptions to the right of access that the Act confers.
