Abstract
Globalization, the migration movements of the past decades and the 2020 pandemic have led to increasing demand on the Austrian education system to prepare students with German as a second language, specifically for educational language requirements. In the extracurricular context, the emphasis on language training - such as in holiday camps or summer schools - has grown as well. In this article, two models of extracurricular language support are presented: The Summer City Camps of Vienna and the Summer School. Based on scientific findings on language promotion, it is discussed to what extent these holiday programs are suitable as a part of continuous language as well as professional-oriented language education.
