greatly facilitate the study and understanding of the many interacting individual, social, and situational factors involved in differential occupational mobility and career success. Finally, it should be recalled that the application of a situational theory has greatly facilitated the building of a general theory of leadership. Since high occupational status is the most common form of real-life leadership status, it seems logical to expect that the increased application of a situational theory in sociological research of the middle ran e will likewise facilitate the building of a general theory of differential occupational mobility and career success. From such situational theory and research, there may also result more real-life answers concerning why some individuals make names for themselves occupationally, while other individuals never amount to much. After all, for those who believe in the truth or falsity of the American Dream, the dream may become real in its occupational consequences.
