Abstract

Lanolin‐impregnated tapes Whilst many thousands of tons of lanolin compositions have been used in rust preventives applied thinly by brushing, spraying or dipping for application in corrosive conditions, thick films are essential and therefore an improved method of application in thicker tape form is desirable. This has been acquired by Merseyside Anti‐Corrosion Services, of Aintree, Liverpool, by impregnating and coating cotton or glass fabric which is applied spirally in the case of tubes and longitudinally in the case of structural steelwork, all overlaps being hermetically sealed by the simple process of smoothing over with the hands. In this form it is finding a growing use in industry not only for transit or storage protection on bright or bearing surfaces of machines and parts but also on pipes, conduits, tank exteriors, ducting, etc., in situations where corrosion is particularly heavy.
