Abstract

Production of xylooligosaccharides (XOS) from Camellia oleifera shell (COS) using the crude enzyme from Aspergillus fumigatus (A. fumigatus) was investigated. COS was subjected to different pretreatments, namely thermal autoclaving, combination of diluted acid, diluted alkali or concentrated alkali with thermal autoclaving, microwave-assited ethanol pretreatment. The results showed that the combination of diluted alkali with thermal autoclaving is the best pretreatment for XOS production. The optimal conditions for enzymatic xylooligosaccharides production from the best pretreatment are: temperature 50 °C, pH 4.5, substrate concentration 8% (m/V), enzymatic hydrolysis time 9 h, and enzyme dose of 40 IU/g substrate. A maximum yield of 17.08 ± 0.67 g/L of XOS was obtained under the above optimum conditions for the best pretreatment.
