Abstract

Poly-γ-glutamic acid is an important biopolymer with attractive properties of commercial value across several industries. However, its high market price prohibits its widespread application. The utilisation of lignocellulosic biomass as an alternative carbon source for poly-γ-glutamic acid production could be beneficial from a cost and sustainability perspective. This review examines the state of the art and the key influencing factors. Future research directions are also discussed.
