Abstract

Abstract Plasminogen activator from monkey kidney cell cultures was produced in mass tissue culture propagators for the purpose of obtaining sufficient quantities for characterization and research. Two modifying factors were used in the design and production of plasminogen activator: an increase in liquid operating volume and the addition of glycine to the maintenance medium. Production levels of approximately 10 million international units (IU) were obtained over a six-month period. The methods employed gave sufficient quantities of crude enzyme for further purification, characterization, and use in experimental studies.
