Abstract

Sunflower plants artificially infected by Phomopsis helianthi contain the phytotoxin phomozin which has been identified both by its HPLC-chromatographic behaviour, UV spectrum, EI and CI mass spectra, and biological activity. Phomozin is produced in vivo both in susceptible and, to a lesser extent, in tolerant cultivars of sunflower.
