Abstract

This article examines one version of a combined process in a single process unit for thermocondensation of heavy pyrolysis tar, obtaining several grades of petroleum electrode pitch and a pitch distillate. The unit contains two sections: a reactor section with series connected reactors, and a mixing section. In the reactors, the heavy pyrolysis tar undergoes a thermocondensation process, yielding 37-40% still bottoms (pitch). The scheme for obtaining various petroleum pitches in a combined process was tested under laboratory conditions. The process conditions are shown along with characteristics of the pitch obtained by thermocondensation and compounding.
