Abstract

In connection with the dinitration of 2-nitropropane by nitric acid using 100ml stainless steel autoclave, effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, volume and concentration of nitric acid, initial pressure and additives were investigated. When nitrogen was introduced under pressure into the autoclave to cause initial pressure, the product yield was 42.0wt%; and the conversion of HNO3 to 2, 2-dinitropropane, 29.4%. Under the follwing conditions-initial pressure of nitrogen: 100kg/cm2 (gauge), 66.8% nitric acid: 10.0g, 2-nitropropane: 5.0g, reaction temperature: 180°C and reaction time: 55.0min. Conditions under which the maximum yield was obtained were-initial pressure: 0kg/cm2 (gauge) (without replacing the air in the autoclave), 66.8% nitric acid: 25.0g, 2-nitropropane: 5.0g, reaction temperature: 180°C and reaction time: 30.0min. Under the foregoing conditions, the yield was 64.4wt%; and the conversion of HNO3 to 2, 2-dinitropropane, 18.0%.
