Abstract

AbstractTailor‐made esters are becoming more widely used as either synthetic base stocks or performance additives for producing, for example, premium‐grade synthetic or semi‐synthetic speciality greases, aviation lubricants, or metal‐working fluids. The present work, using a laboratory batch autoclave to evaluate the kinetic parameters, considers the kinetics of a typical non‐catalytic esterification of a suitable polyol at elevated temperatures (190‐220°C) and corresponding vapour pressure. The proposed rate equation represents satisfactorily the progress of the reaction.
