Abstract

Abstract The present study analyzed both production-based and consumption-based carbon emissions of Beijing. Based on the detailed carbon emission inventory, the input-output analysis was applied to calculate the consumption-based carbon emissions of the local economic system. Due to the constraint of input-output data, the CO 2 emissions originated from fossil fuel combustion in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012 were studied. According to the results, Beijing's production-based carbon emissions may have reached the peak before 2010. More and more carbon emissions were embodied in Beijing's domestic exports. While even more local carbon emission were avoided by Beijing's domestic and foreign imports.
