Abstract

A simple soluble model with three coupled two-particle channels is discussed. The model is intended to simulate the I = 1 2 , s-wave part of the associated production processes π + N → Δ + K, π + N → Σ + K, and elastic πN scattering. The cusps are exhibited explicitly, and their sizes are easily seen to be small for reasonable values of the coupling constants. The influence of the two-body inelastic channels on πN elastic scattering is discussed and contrasted with that of three-body inelastic channels.
