Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the Polish energy market compared to the countries of the ‘old’ (UE-15) and the ‘new’ (UE-28) European Union. Today, the EU consists of 28 states of different size, population, economy, and energy structure. Without presenting the political-economic context, a comparison between energy market in Poland to those in the other 28 EU countries would not produce a reliable picture. The existence of these discrepancies was a motivating factor in the authors’ efforts to account for the Polish energy market as compared to the ‘old’ and ‘new’ EU states. The data were presented and analysed according to the different kinds of energy sources.
