Abstract

Details of common media and procedures are given for the regeneration of plants from disks of mature leaves and young axenic leaves of African Violet. Growth analysis of the progeny plant populations show differences in plant diameter, leaf number, leaf area and petiole length between tissue culture progenies and those derived from leaf cuttings. Both the tissue culture progeny poulations had similar character means. Intra-population variation was high for all three progeny populations. Leaf shape, number of flowering plants, number of peduncles and number of flowers and flower buds per plant did not vary among the three progeny populations, but intrapopulation variation was high in the latter characteristic.
