Abstract

The TRANSYT program is one of the most extensively used programs for the production of signal coordination plans. The impediments to the development of signal coordination plans are associated with data collection and data input. GIS offers a natural solution to these problems. This paper presents the SIGTRAF system, which uses GIS-T technology for the production of coordination plans using TRANSYT. This system is able to extract topological information from the GIS-T, thus simplifying the process of coding TRANSYT models. A case study was performed, providing insight on how the GIS-T’s thematic mapping capabilities can be used to visually compare different timing plans.
