Abstract
LEARNING OUTCOME: To delineate the tasks for producing a recruitment video Recruitment of promising students into dietetics is important. A well produced video, an effective tool for recruitment, will assist students in making decisions in career and college selections. This paper presents the procedure of producing a recruitment video. The production team included a dietetic intern, dietetic internship director, media producer, and media technician. A focus group consisted of students from representative area high schools was used to determine the best approach to present the recruitment information. A time table was developed for the tasks of the project, which included writing the script, creating the story board, video tapping, editing, previewing, and the final production. The findings from the focus group was used to create the story board. Next, the scripts were written using references such as the existing videos from the university, the American Dietetic Association, and USDA. Clips from reference videos were incorporated for transition. The content of the video included an introduction into the world of dietetics and food availability and selection, admision requirements, and finally, the practice of dietetics. Graduates and dietetic interns gave their testimony. Shots of dietitians and foodservice managers at their work sites were also included. Editing was done, and after several previews, the final copy of a high audience impact and unique recruitment video was produced.
