Abstract

The Supreme Court’s 1959 Catco opinion held that the Federal Power Commission should give more consideration to proposed prices when awarding certificates authorizing the sale of natural gas. This article addresses the contribution of this decision to producer price regulation, in the historical context in which it finds significance, and its impact on the FPC and court of appeals decisions that followed.
