Abstract

The low grade, slow growth nature of cancer of the rectum justifies the most radical measures directed toward its cure. Transfer of urine to the cecum is compatible with life over a period of at least twenty-two years. Transfer to the cecum has reduced the quantitative efflux of urine by about 30 per cent but insufficient to render the colostomy trustworthy. The present series is so small that it affords a basis only for conjecture, hope and further study.
