Abstract

Descriptive qualitative research developed in 2005, in a Nursing Undergraduate Course of an Institution of Curitiba-Paraná. It was aimed to identify the undergraduate students' perception concerning the working process of the nurse in the Material and Sterilization Center (MSC). Nineteen (19) students enrolled in the Nursing Semiotechnique I class, taught in the 4th period; participated in the research. The data were collected by an instrument composed of four open questions before and after the supplied content, which were organized in thematic categories. The preliminary results revealed the lack of knowledge of the operational process and the nurse's role in that area, while reports obtained after the discussion, confirmed that there were concern, improvement and resignificance regarding the subject. It is suggested that undergraduate courses approach topics relative to the working process in the MSC emphasizing the extent of the nursing field, in a way the students visualize and value the knowledge of such professional in the healthcare process.
