Abstract

AbstractThe processing of fine dispersed powder particles in the diameter range from 10 to 0.1 µm of soft metals, such as Sn and In, using extreme extrusion (EE) was achieved using a specially designed device. The effect of fine dispersion of bulk metals appears at extrusion rates and pressures, which are one to two orders of magnitude larger than in conventional extrusion. It is proposed that the main mechanism of the fine dispersion using EE is melting due to the high strain rate deformation and the subsequent spraying of the liquid.
