Abstract

Edge detection and enhancement techniques are commonly used in determining the edge of subsurface structures. For this purpose, many techniques based on derivatives of potential field data and image processing techniques have been developed, such as analytic signal, tilt angle, horizontal gradient magnitude, steerable filters and wavelets. In this study, the total horizontal derivative (THDR), tilt angle (TA), normalized standard deviation (NSTD), n-order vertical derivative (VDRn) and the peak value of total horizontal derivative (PTHDR) techniques are used. First, the edge detection and enhancement performances of these techniques were tested on synthetic total magnetic data caused by three prism bodies at the different depths. Finally, these techniques were applied on magnetic data in the Sinop area and determined the subsurface lineaments and ellipsoid features in the survey area.
