Abstract

The relationship between individuals and organizations becomes particularly apparent in transitional processes when people leave or enter organizations. Qualitative studies of person-organization separation processes in particular provide us with insights in human thoughts, emotions and actions vis-à-vis work organizations. Through the presentation of 10 cases of person-organization separation, central aspects of organizational affiliation and separation processes are explored. In conclusion, the processes of organizational and marital divorce are compared.
