Abstract

Nominalization in Bantu languages is one of the processes that exploit the rich Bantu nominal and verbal morphology. While there have been a number of studies on the verbal morphology of these languages in the recent past (e.g. Kuperus and Mpunga wa Hunga 1990. Culy 1996, Ngonyani 1998). very little attention has been given to the study of nominal morphology. This paper describes various processes of nominalization in Ciluba. a Bantu language spoken in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire): and considers their implications for concepts such as TERMS. NON-TERMS and AGREEMENT in Relational Grammar (Franz 1981. Perlmutter 1983. Perlmutter & Postal 1984).
