Abstract Mastan Shaikh Snr.Safety Engineer Kuwait Oil Company Paper Title: “Process Safety Management (PSM) Overview and Implementation in KOC North Kuwait Fields” Description: Process Safety Management (PSM) is an effective tool to reduce operational risks in the production operation and maintenance of Facilities.Proactively identifying the hazards, assessing the risks and taking corrective action can prevent incidents/accidents. Application The KOC’s Process Safety Management (PSM) system and requirements are incorporated in the PSM Manual and it is applied to all KOC Directorates and their assets managed by KOC. Implementation of the PSM System is expected to enhance process safety, engineering management, reduction of major risks and process incidents, plant availability, as well as production efficiencies.The PSM Manual is also applicable to all contractors and their associated sub-contractors while designing, procuring, building, operating or maintaining KOC’s assets. Corporate HSE Group has introduced a Performance Management System to review the effectiveness of PSM system implementation based on internal & external audits of all Directorates.PSM Implementation progress and compliance with PSM Manual is assessed and measured through a set of PSM Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Facility Integrity Management System (FIMS) & Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) and these are discussed and agreed between Directorates, Corporate HSE Group and Performance Management Team. Results and conclusion All agreed set of PSM KPIs have been implenmented in North Kuwait Fields of KOC and achieved sustainable production and 20.78 Safe Million Man-hours without lost time injuries till 31.03.2014. North Kuwait Directorate was honored with many International HSE awards during the year 2013. This paper intends to present an overview of KOC PSM System and KPIs implemented in NK Fields of KOC by analyzing the process of implementation and results achieved.This paper will also share the HSE performance in terms of reduction of lagging indicators and improvement of leading indicators.
