Abstract

The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of physical vapour deposition (PVD) and chemical vapour deposition (CVD) coated cemented carbide inserts on the surface quality of work piece. In the present work, AISI 202 austenitic stainless steel work pieces are turned on computer numerical controlled (CNC) lathe by using CVD coated insert [Ti(C, N) + Al2O3], PVD coated insert [(Ti, Al) N + TiN] of 0.4 and 0.8 mm nose radii of each. The effect of coating method and change in process parameters on the work piece surface roughness has been investigated. In order to produce any product with desired quality by machining, process parameters should be selected properly. To achieve this, the experimental investigations are executed on Taguchi’s design of experiments (DOE) approach to analyse the effect of process parameters on surface roughness and to obtain the optimal setting of these process parameters. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) is also used to analyse the influence of process parameters du...
