Abstract

This paper represents to select the optimized sand casting process parameters to reduce the cold metal defect in 100 mm flange, a ferrous casting. The experiments are conducted using the L27 orthogonal array of the Taguchi technique. The S/N ratio gives the best parameter combination to produce quality casting and the mathematical model is developed using regression analysis. The confirmatory test result shows that the cold metal casting rejection rate is reduced to 10% from 23%.
