Abstract

ABSTRACT This work proposes a modeling approach to clinical pathway information system (CPIS) based on process ontology. The technology is to develop a model of the diagnosis and treatment processes, which are considered as ontology, in which the clinical pathways instance are transformed into the linear combination of the diagnosis task ontology, while the diagnosis task ontology is extracted from clinical doctor’s advice. The system requires users only to describe the tasks of the action and check items in doctor’s advice to build electronic clinical pathway, the approach will greatly reduce time, costs and human capital in the system construction of the clinical pathway instances. Also, this paper develops a method of transforming the medical ontology description into semantic inference rules based on the modeling. Every step of the clinical path execution can be checked by the system for semantic reasoning of the patient's condition, which improves the system's usability.
