Abstract

An investigation into the characteristics of mineral formation, micro configuration and inner micro thermal crack development has been made in micro scale in laboratory. The observed rock is the fine sandstone from Fuxin of Liaoning province. MPV-SP micro-photometer made by Leica Co., Germany has been used and the heating scope ranges from room temperature to 1350°C in the experiment. The result shows that the micro cracks of this fine sandstone acutely increase after 150°C and later reach to a peak. The number of cracks begins to descend when the temperature is over 210°C and gradually stabilizes. The second peak of the cracks appears at 810°C. There exists a thermal crack threshold with the change of temperature for fine sandstone.
