Abstract

There has been a perceived division in the approaches adapted by educational universities or institutions and practicing engineers in industry towards process control, often result in graduating students having to learn process control over again upon entering a plant environment. A distributed control system laboratory is setup for courses in process control and intends to bridge the teaching of control systems in educational institutions to the process control systems in industrial environment. To this end industrial standard equipment is used in both the process pilot plants and the distributed computer control system, and the experiments for students are designed with industrial operational objectives. At the same time, the system permits the flexibility of implementing many different control strategies.
