Abstract

The purpose of the present investigations is to study the process capability of ultrasonic machining (USM) for titanium and its alloys. For the analysis purpose, Taguchi model of material removal rate (MRR), tool wear rate (TWR) and surface roughness (SR) for USM of titanium and its alloys has been used. Relationships between MRR, TWR, SR and other controllable machining parameters (power rating, tool type, slurry concentration, slurry type, slurry temperature and slurry size) have been deduced. The results of study suggest that the USM process lies in ±4.5 sigma (σ) limit as regard to MRR and TWR is concerned. For SR process capability is ±5.1 σ at the best settings of input parameters while machining of titanium alloys.
