Abstract

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 16th ACM International Conference on Web Search and Data Mining (WSDM 2023). WSDM is one of the premier conferences in the fields of web search and data mining, with a dynamic and growing community from academia and industry. After two years of virtual conferences, the 2023 edition is an in-person conference with virtual elements. We are excited to meet many colleagues face-to-face again. We hope you enjoy the conference at the Carlton Hotel Singapore from February 27 to March 3, 2023. The program begins with Tutorials and Industry Day. The ten tutorials run the gamut of topics on search and data mining. We are delighted to have speakers from major technology companies sharing their insights with us on the Industry Day. For the main technical program over three days, we continue the single-track tradition of WSDM with 123 papers from a mix of academic and industrial speakers. Each day is opened by a prominent researcher as our keynote speakers: Ya-Qin Zhang (Tsinghua University), Maarten de Rijke (University of Amsterdam), and Rosie Jones (Spotify). The 23 demonstrations provide first-hand experience of novel prototypes or operational systems. On the final day, the program features a doctoral consortium and five workshops on diverse topics including data labeling, integrity in social media, graph learning, and recommender systems. We run the Smart City Day again in 2023, which in addition to talks, features the firstever ideation challenge held at WSDM. The WSDM Cup Day features finalists' presentations on challenges around unbiased learning to rank, multilingual information retrieval, and visual question answering. Altogether, the activities make for an exciting and well-rounded program.
