Abstract

Since the Japanese Antarctic Research Expeditions (JARE) of the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR) in Tokyo began finding abundant meteorites in 1969, they have established a highly impressive record of developing the science of meteoritics in Japan on a broad international scale. As a part of this effort they have held annual symposia in Tokyo, involving mainly Japanese scientists, some already well established in other areas, and an impressive array of younger ones. Some scientists from the United States and other countries also attend. The seventh symposium was held on February 19 and 20, 1982, at the NIPR.
