Abstract

We very much welcome you to the 7th edition of MobileHCI, the International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services. We can't imagine life today without mobile systems and the mobile industry is prominent. Thus the challenge to design mobile systems which are oriented to the needs of the user is a fact. MobileHCI has developed into an important event for both academia and industry. The mission of the conference is to share latest results in designing and evaluating mobile interaction, systems, services and applications. MobileHCI gives a unique opportunity to share their perspectives and discuss latest issues. The MobileHCI series started in 1998 by Chris Johnson and was chaired by Stephen Brewster and Mark Dunlop in 1999 and 2001. Then it moved to Pisa in 2002 (under the chairmanship of Fabio Paterno) and then to Udine 2003 chaired by Luca Chittaro. 2004 it was back in the UK, again chaired by Stephen Brewster and Mark Dunlop. We would like to thank all for their work so that we could take over a great conference. In the last years MobileHCI has constantly kept growing, and this year is no exception. We got submissions from 37 countries worldwide. This year we received 99 full papers (79 were received last year) from which we accepted the best 28. We had 124 short papers (81 last year) from which we could accept 26 as short papers and 16 as posters. We received 9 workshop proposals, from which we accepted 6. We received 10 tutorial proposals from which we accepted 6. In addition the conference features 6 demos and 13 industrial cases. Furthermore the programme includes 2 panels and keynote presentations. Based on the number of submissions we had to schedule the last conference day with two parallel tracks (the short paper presentations) this year.A conference like this cannot happen without reviewers. We very much thank all those people supporting us in reviewing and giving feedback to authors. All submissions were reviewed by at least two reviewers, most of the reviews were done by three reviewers. This allowed us to keep the quality of the work presented at MobileHCI at a very high level. Based on the high number of submissions getting into the programme was very hard this year.Themes presented in the conference are very diverse. The topic of social issues is very prominent. Other sessions are dedicated to issues like specific facets of design, multimodality, the still valuable discussion on multidevice issues, input techniques and modalities, visualisation on mobile devices, different aspects of context, guiding and navigating supported by mobile devices, interaction techniques and gatherring more insights on users and costumers.Putting together MobileHCI is a team effort. We would like to thank all the contributors to the conference, providing the content of the programme. We would like to express our gratitude to the University of Salzburg, where the conference takes place, and the Center for Information and Communication Technologies & Society (ICT&S) for all additional support. We extend our gratitude to the people who worked before and during the conference and to our sponsors and cooperation partners for their generous support of the conference.
