Abstract

Welcome to the fourth edition of the IFIP/ACM Latin America Networking Conference, LANC'2007, taking place in San José, the capital of beautiful Costa Rica, in conjunction with the Thirty-Third Latin American Computing Conference, the main event of the CLEI (Centro Latino Americano de Estudios en Informática). LANC is organized by CLEI, with the sponsorship of IFIP in cooperation with ACM SIGCOMM, both organizations providing funds for invited speakers and tutorialists. ACM SIGCOMM also funded prizes for top LANC 2007 papers by Latin American authors, and facilitated the publication of the accepted papers in ACM's Digital Library. We thank Cisco and Intel for their financial support that helped make this event a reality, and Chevron for providing award prizes for three papers authored by Latin American students. The conference program includes plenary talks by Mieso Denko and Neil Gershenfeld, tutorials by Kenneth Ingham, Ramon Puigjaner and Guy Pujolle, and 16 papers, including 13 regular presentations and 3 posters. These works were selected from the 37 submissions received from all over the world. Among the authors of the submitted papers, we find researchers from Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela, showing the steady growth of the Latin American research activity in this area. We want to thank the Program Committee members for their careful and rigorous work, which followed the strictest international standards, and guaranteed a high quality program for the event.
