Abstract

The International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation (ISSAC) is the premier conference for research in symbolic computation and computer algebra. ISSAC is the continuation of conferences with the names SYMSAC, EUROCAL, EUROSAM, and EUROCAM, which have alternated between North America and Europe before merging into ISSAC. The whole series started in 1966 with the first ACM Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation, and it has been held annually since 1981. The conference typically presents a range of invited talks, tutorials, poster sessions, software demonstrations, and vendor exhibits, with its center-piece being peer-reviewed contributed research papers. ISSAC 2021 is the 46th meeting in the series. It was sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Symbolic Manipulation (ACM SIGSAM) of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM). It was also generously supported by Maplesoft, and by a few other institutions and organizations, as listed on the following pages. ISSAC 2021 was originally planned to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, at the St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Mathematical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (PDMI). But the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to hold the meeting in a hybrid format, with the main part of the attendance remotely over the internet, and a more modestly sized attendance in-person on site. The format of recent ISSAC conferences has been three days of the main body of the conference, with an additional preliminary day for tutorials. This year, despite the hybrid format, we wished to maintain as much as possible the presentations to their usual duration, and broadcasted live. The need to accommodate the whole program with reasonable accessibility from many time zones has made us decide to hold this year's meeting over five days: ISSAC 2021 took place from the 19th to the 23th of July 2021, with an additional day for a workshop on the 18th.
