Abstract

C omprehensive patch test application allows for the detection of a myriad of chemical allergen sensitizers. The average number of allergens placed on a patient ranges from 65 to 100. There are 65 allergens in the North American Standard Series, and a variety of other chemicals may be tested as warranted based on a thorough history. The allergens are loaded into wells (either Finn chambers or IQ chambers) mounted on standard tape strips. The Finn chambers have longitudinal tape backing along one entire side to allow for easy handling, and require open faced storage to prevent adhesion to other strips (Fig 1). The IQ have raised plastic covers which permit stacking for storage and transport. These strips lack the tape backing strips for easy handling.
