Abstract

Procedural sedation is classified as a high-risk low volume procedure in many hospitals across the nation. The medications utilized in moderate and deep sedation must be understood for mechanism of action, half-life, appropriate dosing, and reversal options. This presentation will be all pharmaceutical in nature reviewing the most commonly utilized opioids, benzodiazepines, anesthetic agents, and optional adjuvant agents for sedation.
